For all its highs and lows, one impressive constant at Fashion Pakistan Week has been the induction of new names every season, year after year. Names like Adnan Pardesy, Zaheer Abbas, Wardha Saleem, Sanam Chaudhri and Sania Maskatiya actually made fashion week debuts on this platform and while many debutantes sank into oblivion, there are more than an impressive number of names that rode the wave to success and critical acclaim. That is something to be proud of and it probably is what the newly elected Pakistan Fashion Council will be celebrating during the three day fashion week, which has been confirmed to take place in Karachi between February 22 and 24.
Fashion Pakistan Week will also be introducing capsules highlighting local textiles, which will be another super concept if executed well. We have seen Lakme Fashion Week celebrate Indian Handloom and Textiles on the platform and it’ll be interesting to see how the concept pans out in Pakistan. We have already seen designers like Maheen Khan developing exclusive woven fabric for her brand and now we expect to see more designers incorporate Pakistan’s rich heritage of textiles in novel and trendy ways.
According to a press release, FPW S/S’17 will feature, amongst others, Aamna Aqeel, Amir Adnan, Arsalan Iqbal, Ayesha Farooq Hashwani, Bunto Kazmi, Deepak Perwani, Fnk Asia, Gulabo, Innaya, Lala Textiles, Maheen Khan, Munib Nawaz, Nauman Arfeen, Nida Azwer, Nilofer Shahid, Nomi Ansari, Pink Tree, Sana Safinaz, Sonya Battla, Shamaeel, Shehla Chatoor, Tena Durrani and Umar Sayeed.
