As Dangal roared its way to box office glory, Forbes magazine has decided to bestow the title of king on its lead star and producer, Aamir Khan. Yes, according to Forbes, its Aamir Khan who is the new king of Bollywood aka Hindi cinema.
The reason is fairly simple: Dangal has collected a total of Rs 385 crores in India alone, making it Bollywood’s biggest hit to date. Not surprisingly, Aamir Khan took to social media to express his gratitude at the response. “I am absolutely overwhelmed with all the love that Dangal has got. It is one of the most passionate responses I have ever received. I want to thank everyone for owning the film as their own,” he wrote on Twitter.
Even though Shah Rukh Khan, the original King of Hindi cinema, has managed to find a hit in Raees which has smoothly entered the 100 crore club, his films have not generated the kind of box office figures that Aamir Khan’s film boast of.
Drawing comparisons between the earnings of the two Khans, the magazine concluded that not only have Aamir’s film made more money but he has also mastered the art of storytelling with films like 3 Idiots, PK and the classic Lagaan to his credit.
On the other hand, SRK’s last few films such as Fan, Dilwale and Dear Zindagi have not minted money on the box office. With Raees faring well, SRK loyalists are hopeful that it will bring him back to the top of the game. It is surprising to note that the comparison was between Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan even though Salman Khan has proven himself to be a worthy rival.
