With an aim to salute the innovation and accomplishments of women in PR around the world, PR News honours some of the most influential female figures in the field every year. And this year is no different as PR News celebrated the achievements of women who remained at the forefront in activities like PR management and communication, setting up strategies and developing brand messages for their organizations as well as the clients in the past year.

In a recent event held at The Grand Hyatt, NY, on January 24, the organization announced the name of top women who bagged the PR Awards. Among them is Selina Rashid Khan from Lotus Client Management & Public Relations, the only woman from Pakistan who bagged the award this year. She is the first professional who started the culture of professional PR in Pakistan and initiated the proceedings 10 years back.

Khan took to her Facebook page to share the news and express her gratitude on receiving the award. “Big day. While awards don’t define us, they definitely feel good,” she posted. “Today Lotus and PR from Pakistan was acknowledged internationally by PR News in a ceremony in NY; honoured with an award for being a ‘Top Woman in PR’.”

Khan also thanked her colleague Mahnoor Wali who went to receive the award on her behalf as she couldn’t make it to the event.

Reflecting on how it all started and informing that it’s been a decade to the birth of Lotus, she stated, “We started small, from my parents’ dining room, with a loan of Rs 100,000. Graduated to my father and uncle’s filing cabinet, aka store room, repaid the loan, painted the wall red, outlined a Lotus flower on it and voila, a company was born. The red is now orange, the dusty room is now a proper office albeit still dusty most of the year, but the spirit is still the same: work hard, learn from every failure and success, be empowered and empower all those around you and don’t get caught up in the politics of life, work and being human. Inspire and aspire, always!”
