Matt Damon, star of terrific films like The Martian and the superb Jason Bourne franchise, has landed in some serious trouble. His latest film, The Great Wall, co-produced by Chinese and Hollywood studios, is a critical and commercial disaster. While some have accused the film for shamelessly pandering to China, others are more disturbed by this latest reflection of Hollywood’s white-wash policy in which Caucasian actors are chosen over actors with other ethnicities.

Constance Wu, who stars on the hit comedy series, Fresh Off The Boat, took to her Twitter account and slammed the film’s casting calls and how it’s indicative of a larger issue.

“Our heroes don’t look like Matt Damon. They look like Malala. Ghandi. Mandela. Your big sister when she stood up for you to those bullies that one time. We don’t need salvation. We like our color and our culture and our strengths and our own stories,” Wu wrote.

Rejecting the explanation that only certain white stars can mint money on the box office, Wu said further: “Think only a huge movie star can sell a movie? That has never been a total guarantee. Why not try to be better?” and “Money is the lamest excuse in the history of being human. So is blaming the Chinese investors.”
