Haissam Hussain’s upcoming love tale Balu Mahi is one of the most anticipated films of 2017. Starring heartthrob Osman Khalid Butt and the talented Ainy Jaffri in pivotal roles, the film created a lot of buzz on social media after the first look was revealed. And now that the trailer is here, it has managed to receive mixed reviews.

Opening with a wedding scene with Jaffri as the bride and Butt accidentally mistaking her for his lover, the trailer has hints of romance but mostly comes off as a comedy.

The bride (Mahi), who doesn’t want to get married to the groom chosen for her, goes on the run with a guy (Balu) she barely knows. On his part, Balu seems clueless and confusion reigns supreme. From there onwards, the story is about their shared journey which includes being chased by scary-ass villains as well as the blossoming of love and stuff.

While the film’s first look may have led to the belief that this cinematic venture is an intense love story, the trailer, full of OTT (over-the-top) moments, suggests otherwise.

The bad news: the lead pair lacks chemistry. But maybe that will not be the case with the full film. Both of them are good actors (as has been proven by their TV roles) and at minimum, handle their dialogues well.

Coming from director Haissam Hussain (one of the directors behind Bin Roye), we expect Balu Mahi to live up to expectations and perform well on the box office when it makes its appearance next year in February during the Valentine season.
