Pakistani Dramas and Coke Studio are the clear winners.
YouTube Pakistan just launched a list of the highest rated videos and music videos of the year 2016. This list has been generated keeping certain variables in mind, such as the amount of interaction the video has received. This includes total views, likes, shares and comments by Pakistanis.
According to the list, it turns out that Commander Safeguard is the most popular icon in Pakistan. The episode, titled Jungle Mein Mungle has received nearly 3 million views. While this comes as a surprise, the next video on this list was expected to be there. Film Jawani Phir Nai Aani comes second with 4.6 million views. TV dramas Udaari, Dil Lagi, Mann Mayal and Bin Roye also appeared on the list, respectively.
While YouTube Pakistan has also released a supplementary list for music videos, there are a few music videos that have made the Top 10 list as well. Cornetto Pop Rock’s ‘Desan De Raja’ by Qurram Hussain and Komal Rizvi came 4th while Asrar’s ‘Shakar Wandaan Re’ in the film Ho Mann Jahaan came 9th on the list. Unsurprisingly, Tahir Shah’s second musical venture ‘Angel’ also made it to the list, securing the 10th position.
Coke Studio was a clear favourite for many Pakistanis this year as most of the videos on the list belong to the branded music show. Unsurprisingly, ‘Afreen Afreen’ by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Momina Mustehsan gathered a whopping 34 million views on Youtube, making it one of the highest watched Pakistani video ever. Other Coke Studio songs include ‘Aye Rah-e-Haq Ke Shaheedon’ by all the singers of Coke Studio season 9, ‘Tera Woh Pyaar’ by Momina Mustehsan and Asim Azhar, ‘Rang’ by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Amjad Sabri and ‘Aaqa’ featuring Abida Perveen and Ali Sethi, in this order.
Rahat Fateh’s ‘Tumhein Dillagi’ and Qurat-ul-ain Baloch’s ‘Saaiyaan’ were the only two local non Coke Studio songs. The other songs in this list were Katrina Kaif and Siddharth Malhotra’s ‘Kaala Chashma’ and Salman Khan’s hit number from Sultan, ‘Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai.’ Only one English song made it to the list: ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers, featuring Halsey.
The top 10 list for music all over the world included renowned names like Calvin Harris, Rihanna, Mike Posner, Sia, Zayn Malik and Coldplay. However, the top song of 2016 was ‘Work From Home’ by Fifth Harmony, featuring Ty Dolla $ign, that gained over a billion views worldwide.
