The recently held FocusPK conference brought some of the industry’s biggest names together on a common platform to talk about issues that confront the entertainment industry today – be it theatre, films, TV or music. Speaking in a session dedicated to the issues challenging theatre, actor Zahid Ahmed, who played prominent roles in some popular theatre plays (Sawa 14 August, Pawnay 14 August), shared that theatre has played a significant role in landing him a successful career in TV.
“It [theatre] has made my life,” he asserted. “Theatre has played a very important role in my growth. I have had two successful years in television. I couldn’t earn a living by working in theatre but it paved the way for multiple opportunities in television.”
The actor also pointed out that TV and film artists who have come from theatre are better than their counterparts. “Theatre is where artists are made,” he noted. “Artists who have been trained on the stage (Hareem Farooq, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Yasir Hussain, Yasra Rizvi) are doing better than other actors.”
Ahmed has a number of popular TV plays, including Alvida, Sangat, Besharam, to his credit and is currently playing the protagonist in drama serials Mera Kya Qasoor Tha and Naimat. He also informed that he doesn’t plan to work in theatre anymore as he is content with where he is today.
