Ace director-actor Khalid Ahmed has been associated with the entertainment industry for several years; he simultaneously works for theatre, television as well as films. His last film, Laloo Lal dot Com (made under Zeal for Unity initiative), that stars Faysal Qureshi in titular role, was recently screened at T2F amidst much appreciation. In a recent interview with Instep, he shared his views on the ban on screening Bollywood films in local cinemas.

“The situation is very worrying because our cinema has just started taking baby steps,” he noted. “Initially we thought our films won’t find an audience but that wasn’t the case as people were visiting cinemas and watching local films. A lot of new screens were also introduced and cinema was flourishing but it has stopped after the ban on Indian films which is worrying.”

Ever since local cinemas have stopped showing Bollywood content, people don’t want to go to cinemas. Cinema owners have closed a lot of screens and the situation has had a strong impact on the overall cinema business.

Coming back to Ahmed, his last film Laloo Lal dot Com, that tackles the themes of love, loss and betrayal, may release in cinemas nationwide in the coming days.
