The fact that Enchanted is getting a sequel is exciting for one primary reason: It will be interesting to see how Disney makes a film that doesn’t sell a happily-ever-after rhetoric, considering the fact that the Disney films’ entire existence depends on convincing young women that a charming prince will come to save them and everything will be perfect once that happens.

This was basically the plot for Enchanted as well. Giselle, played by Amy Adams, ends up in the real world after living in the fairy tale kingdom of Andalasia, which you can call a fantastical utopia, and everything in the real world is sad, depressing and troubling. Eventually, she falls in love with a real man, Patrick Dempsey and they live ‘happily ever after’.

The sequel, appropriately titled Disenchanted, will be set ten years after Giselle’s happily ever after, where she starts to question her happiness and everything in the fairy tale world of Andalasia goes upside down.

Amy Adams will be returning to the screen for the sequel and while details of the project are yet to be announced, what we do now for now is that Hairspray director Adam Shankman will be directing the film, which will begin rolling the cameras in the summer of 2017.
