The intersection of science and technology over decades has led to a strange shift. We now live in a world that is increasingly interested in exploring the potential of artificial intelligence and robotics in real time.

From Google to Facebook and many others, the existence of artificial intelligence is no longer restricted to a mere idea.  Such themes have been explored in several films and even TV shows like Person of Interest and the new HBO series, Westworld. What it means for humanity, well, the jury’s still out.

For precisely these reasons and more, we’re very excited about Armeena Rana Khan’s upcoming sci-fi project, The Achilles Protocol which is an exploration of a conflict between a super hacker and artificial intelligence gone rogue. The film, slated to release in 2017, features Khan alongside a British cast that include actors Christopher Faith, Mark Hill and Grace Riley. The film is also radically different than Khan’s earlier projects like Bin Roye and Janaan.

Speaking to Instep, Khan, while expanding on the film, noted that she signed on for the film  because the script was “awesome” and the role gave her an opportunity to “grow as an actor”. Khan also prepared for the role by training for it. “I went into training, there were elements that had to be explored in detail. How do you bring human emotions into a machine?” she told Instep and added, “I found it particulary challenging and had to sit down with the team for ideas and had to research it.” The idea behind this film certainly has merit. How Khan fares in it, time and the audience will tell.
