While conjecture on Mahira Khan’s replacement in Raees continues without any credible confirmation or denial, the world and work goes on. All is not lost for her millions of fans in Pakistan as Khan, who recently took to Facebook to express her peace-loving views on the whole Indo-Pak debate, has signed ace filmmaker Shoaib Mansoor’s next film called Verna. She made her big screen debut with Mansoor’s 2011 film, Bol but while the former featured her in a smaller role, in Mansoor’s next, Khan will be the star of the vehicle. And keeping up his tradition of women-centric films, this one too will follow the same thread.
Meanwhile Mahira is back on the small screen with Bin Roye, which was actually shot as a drama before its conversion to a film. Joined by Humayun Saeed and Armeena Rana Khan, Bin Roye, though not ground breaking by any stretch of the imagination, will appeal to those who’ve been missing Khan from the small screen and have a thing for narratives drenched in love/romance.
Back to Verna, it is slated to release worldwide on Eid-ul-Fitr 2017, and in a statement announcing the film, Mansoor stated: “This film has been written and directed by a man of Pakistan for the men of the world to listen to women. It is to encourage women to speak up.”
