Her fans and followers (and there are millions of them) may have their eyes set on the next film project she signs but Mawra Hocane has taken the unconventional route and signed up for a TV serial. Her fans and followers (and there are millions of them) may have their eyes set on the next film project she signs but Mawra Hocane has taken the unconventional route and signed up for a TV serial. Inspired by her sister, Urwa, who played a struggling singer in socially conscious drama serial Udaari, Mawra has also signed up with Hum TV for Sammi, a play made in collaboration with John Hopkins. Sammi is the title character, played by Mawra (you could have guessed something was up by the way she was tweeting lyrics of ‘Sammi Meri Waar’ this week). Shooting begins soon and the play will air some time in December.

Careful not to give away too much detail, she did share that there were three male protagonists in the play and we were quite intrigued by the possibility of a love quadrangle at which she simply laughed when asked.

Mawra also expressed her exhaustion at weeping on screen (that is pretty much what her character did in Sanam Teri Kasam) and so we’re hoping that the young firebrand – who’s a non-conformist in real life – will bring some of her lively individuality to the upcoming play.
