Sonam Kapoor is hugely famous and comes from an influential family full of filmmakers, actors and producers. Being the daughter of Anil Kapoor surely has been an advantage for Bollywood’s style icon but Kapoor isn’t having any of it.
In an interview with the Huffington Post, Kapoor addressed these statements, claiming how she used to feel guilty belonging to a privileged family, with one foot already in Bollywood, giving her an advantage over others wanting to make it big in the industry. However, she claims that she has made it on her own, without any help from her father or mother.
“The top heroines today—Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra—are both women who aren’t from the industry. And are you telling me that Alia Bhatt is where she is because of her family and not because of her talent?” She also added that all the directors she has worked with have had no professional affiliation with her father.
The actress is perhaps forgetting that her connections to all the famous people of Bollywood do indeed come to her aid and nepotism does indeed play a huge role in making stars. While Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone may have made it on their own, there is an exhaustive list of Bollywood stars who are in the industry because of their connections, such as Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Sonakshi Sinha and Varun Dhawan.
