Aside from Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and Kangana Ranaut, if there is one actor whose film choices reflect quality and diversity, it’s Anushka Sharma. Currently shining in the all-star trailer of Karan Johar’s upcoming unrequited love saga, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Sharma, 28, is soaring to new heights and maintains that for her, script is king.

In a riveting new interview with Filmfare, when Sharma was asked about cracking the formula for hit films (such as Sultan and PK), she explained that for her it all comes down to script.

“Oh yeah! I’ve cracked it. It’s called a script. It’s called good content. It’s called doing something different that people have not seen before,” said Sharma.

In Sultan, Anushka Sharma stood out for several reasons; chief among them is the fact that unlike other Salman Khan films where women are often relegated to props, Sharma stood out for her performance as a female wrestler in what was a substantial role, a fact that she’s fully aware of.

“I need to feel like I am contributing to the film. And also that it should satisfy me as an actor,” she told Filmfare and added that she only said yes to the film after reading the script despite the fact that Sultan was being produced by Aditya Chopra, who is responsible for launching her career.

“When Aditya Chopra called me for Sultan I asked whether I could read the script. He said of course you need to read the script. When I read it, I was kind of surprised because I’d thought ki main kya karungi issme. But I was pleasantly surprised. And I’m glad that people are talking about a girl’s role in a Salman Khan film.”

Having starred across Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh Khan, Sharma revealed that of the three Khans, it’s SRK who she’s most comfortable with. “Shah Rukh. Purely because Imtiaz’s next is the third film that I’m doing with him. I know him from my first film. Toh usme hi itni saari awkwardness nikal gayi, jitna intimidation hona tha woh ho gaya. Right? With SRK, he talks a lot and you can just listen. And I am great with that. I just like to listen; I don’t need to say anything.”
