This week You! takes a look at the trendy yet traditional interiors of a recently opened eating joint in Karachi...
What is the best source of entertainment for a regular Pakistani? Good food of course! And if that food is served in a beautiful setting it cannot get any better than that. One such restaurant is ‘Noon Sey Nihari’ that will not only satisfy your taste buds but the interior will surely grab your attention.
If you happen to be cruising around Seaview, Karachi with your family or friends and thinking up of restaurants you can go to, think no more and head straight to this place. The restaurant is not only affordable but also offers yummy dishes with a comfortable ambiance. ‘Noon Sey Nihari’ began its journey some two years back as a take-away and home delivery joint by a group of partners - Naseer, Umair, Riaz and Sanober. After entailing a long list of loyal customers, the owners decided to set up an eatery offering the customers an opportunity to dine in style.
As you step through the front doors you are welcomed by a small yet cosy setup that you instantly warm up to. As you take stock of your surroundings you find yourself attracted to a wall adorned with flowers that injects instant energy to the interior. Many young couples find themselves drifting towards this romantic floral alcove that not only offers a beautiful and refreshing sight but is an ideal setting within a restaurant.
However, decor like this doesn’t just happen and a lot of thought and research has to be put in it. When planning the interior the owners wanted to create a place that was not only a reflection of the east but also offered a modern setting to the youth. Hence we see a perfect blend of the east and west not just in the food but also in the interior of the restaurant. With a seating capacity of 35 people at a time, it is an ideal spot for intimate get-togethers offering you good food in a clean and fresh environment.
The interior has been designed on clean lines with minimum clutter as far as the décor and seating arrangement goes. The owners have opted for a terracotta colour scheme throughout the restaurant which emanates the richness of the Mughal era while the contemporary seating arrangement lends the environs a modern and pristine look.
Not just the interior but the food too is exceptionally good. The name of the restaurant is a bit misleading as most of you would think that it’s a joint specialising in Nihari. That is however not the case as the eatery offers a wide variety of lip smacking chatpatta delights to choose from.
According to Sanober, one of the owners and head chef of the restaurant, her mother plays a vital role in the delicious fare that is served at the joint. “Cooking has been a passion in our family and the inspiration to start up our restaurant came from our mother. She had always been famous in the family and amongst friends for her hygienic, healthy and scrumptious meals. Traditional/desi food has been her specialty, and among those Nihari was her signature. The basic premise here is that we serve the best! We never compromise on hygiene, food quality and ingredients i.e. mutton, beef, chicken, herbs in fact all ingredients are purchased from the best sources. Our vision is that when the customers eat at our restaurant they should feel exactly how they feel when they eat at home - satisfying food prepared in hygienic condition,” apprised the head chef.
As far as the food is concerned, the appetizers Chatkeelay are hot favourites while Shipialoo (mixed pakoras) served with delicious NSN chatni are another must-have. The main course comprises nihari, paya, matka mutton, chicken shimlai, dera kabab, beef chapli kabab, pur maghaz, chicken mughlai qorma, chat pat chicken, mewa chicken, farmaishi fish, handia daal, mong daal and zeera garlic rice. For dessert you can opt for either shahi tukray or suji ka halwa.
Impressed yet? Well, we think it’s time for you to go check out what this new eating joint is all about.
