Easy fashion hacks to help you update your wardrobe.

Who hasn’t stared into their wardrobe desolately before a big event and wondered why despite all their clothes they had nothing to wear? It’s easy for fashion ennui to set in after regular use of wardrobe staples but not everyone has budgets to match Kendall Jenner and buy a new set of clothing every time a new fad gains momentum.  What do you do mid-summer when all your beginning of the season purchases begin to look stale? Here’s an easy set of fashion hacks to get you over those hump days when your outfit just doesn’t seem to be working out.

DIY your Denim

Most of us will have two or three pairs of jeans that we wear regularly because they fit really well or are super comfortable to walk around in all day. But trends keep changing and finding jeans to fit each of them is near impossible and also a burden on the bank. However if you’re willing to pick up a pair of scissors and refurbished your favourite denim then the possibilities are endless. From shearing your hem so it looks cool and frayed to actually add distress elements, you can repurpose your jeans without incurring any cost. This works equally well for all kinds of denim. Have a jacket with sleeves that don’t fit anymore? Cut them and sport messy looking armholes that can pass off for rock-chic. Think the trending patchwork Zara jeans are cool? Get the patches yourself and stick them on with double tape or do a quick stitch. Before reaching for your wallet see if there’s a way to work it out at home.

Play on textures

For most people the instinctive approach is to play with colour in their outfits. While a pop of colour here and there can liven up a look, playing on textures within the same colour family can actually make your outfit look more high fashion instead. If you’re the kind of person who obsesses over a particular colour, this styling hack is a God sent. It also works really well in winter for layering; think fur with suede or silk and leather.

Backside front

Style is all about being creative and finding new ways to wear the same staples. If you’re a fan of the button down shirt and wear it regularly for work, turn it backside front for an unusual spin. Have a wide boat neck shirt? Slip it off one shoulder for an effortless revamp. Belt your coat instead of buttoning it or knot a t-shirt at the back as opposed to the front. There’s no limit to what you can do!
