Mehwish Hayat’s appearance in Coke Studio’s national song, ‘Aye Rah e Haq Ke Shaheedo’ is no surprise; we all knew that she would be making a Coke Studio debut in Season 9. Despite the fact that she has tried her hands - or rather her vocals - at singing before has not, however, stopped cynics from speculating whether she’s suited to the country’s biggest music platform or not. And cynics can be rather unforgiving.

“Critics have not even heard me sing,” Mehwish commented in a recent interview. “People should wait and hear the song before they judge it. There are people who will hate, regardless, but all the haters who are talking negative about my Coke Studio debut, saying that I cannot sing, should know and realize that someone like Shiraz Uppal or Faisal and Bilal would not have asked me to perform on one of the most prestigious music platforms if they didn’t think I could. This is a HUGE opportunity for me. This whole season is special and I can predict it’ll have the maximum number of hit songs.”

“I have worked with Shiraz Uppal on the song,” Mehwish also shared some info about her track. “It’s a duet with Shiraz Uppal himself and it’s an original track not a cover of an old song. You’ll see that I’ve been very experimental, from Billi to Anmol’s character and now Coke Studio. I’ve taken risks in my career and I have been blessed with success.”

Mehwish is currently appearing in drama serial Dillagi and will feature opposite Fahad Mustafa in upcoming film Actor in Law. Her Coke Studio debut will be another feather in her already popular cap.
