American apparel brand, Calvin Klein might just be best known for their underwear ads (anyone remember the young Mark Walberg kicking off his career with one such campaign?) but the brand has managed to make waves in the global fashion fraternity by announcing the move of Belgian born Raf Simons in to its fold.

Simons will once again reprise his role as a creative director of a brand, having abruptly announced his departure from Dior last year. Simons’ decision to leave Dior came as a shock to most, considering that his tenure was highly acclaimed and his aesthetic had merged well with the iconic French design-house’s ethos. Simons cited creative differences eventually but speculation claimed that it was the maddening pace of churning out collections that got to the designer. The lack of incubation time for ideas became a deal breaker for Simons who was basically asked to rush from one collection to the next.

It was announced just last month that Simons would be replaced by Valentino’s Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior. Fashion’s never-ending game of designer musical chairs continues but it is inspiring to see that designers manage to mold themselves into a new brand’s philosophy with such dexterity that no traces of their previous affiliations remain.

There are high expectations from Simons at Klein and he can rest assured that world is hawkish-ly waiting to see what he produces under their umbrella.
