Ahead of Sultan’s release, Bollywood’s enfant terrible superstar Salman Khan has landed in some serious trouble after making some thoughtless, disgusting remarks. The 50-year-old-star, during a lengthy interview recently compared the rigorous training for his upcoming boxer film to that of a “raped woman”.
While addressing a question about Sultan’s rigorous training, Salman Khan said, “When I used to walk out of the ring, after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn’t walk straight. I would eat and then, head right back to training. That couldn’t stop.”
Sadly, the story doesn’t end there. At a later point during the interview, Khan compares women to “vices” like smoking and drinking. And, as if these remarks were not disgusting enough, Khan while addressing the controversy surrounding his Olympics brand ambassador post, dismissed the amount of work that athletes put in by proceeding to call himself a sportsman just because he can swim. “I have certificates in swimming. So I am technically a sportsman,” said Khan.
Not surprisingly, Twitter has condemned the superstar for his insensitive, horrifying remarks with rage and disbelief. Khan’s father, Salim Khan, also entered the controversy by apologizing on his son’s behalf and admitting that Salman was wrong. Some stories also suggest that when Salman Khan made the rape remark, he tried to rectify his statement and said, “I don’t think I should have [said that].”
The National Commission for Women, meanwhile, has asked Salman Khan to tender an apology within seven days or else he will be summoned for an explanation.
According to several reports, Khan is set to issue a blanket apology before flying off for the IIFAs. The damage, we think, is already done. And coming from a star, who has, in the past, driven over homeless people while inebriated, this is beyond pathetic. Unfortunately, Khan’s immense star power will continue to pave way for him to make even more disgusting statements in the future.
