Tributes pour in as Chekov from Star Trek passes away

Actor Anton Yelchin, 27, best known for playing Chekov in the J.J. Abrams revived Star Trek universe, passed away this Sunday after a mysterious accident in his own driveway. He was found sandwiched between his car and a brick mail box.

Actor Anton Yelchin, 27, best known for playing Chekov in the J.J. Abrams revived Star Trek universe, passed away this Sunday after a mysterious accident in his own driveway. He was found sandwiched between his car and a brick mail box.

According to reports, Yelchin was on his way to meet friends for a rehearsal but when he didn’t turn up; his friends went to his house where they found his body. So far, there are no reports of foul play. 

Yelchin will appear this summer in the third Star Trek film and has a slate of smaller budget films coming as well.

His untimely death has Hollywood reeling. Stars like Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Wilde, Justin Lin and William Shatner have taken to their respective social media accounts to express both sorrow and love for the young star.

J.J Abrams, who directed Yelchin in the first two Star Trek films, wrote on Twitter about the actor: “You were brilliant. You were kind. You were funny as hell, and supremely
talented. And you weren’t here nearly long enough. Missing you. JJ.”
