Back on the big screen, Kubra Khan talks Abhi, her character in Jannat Se Aagay, and her dream to collaborate with Fahad Mustafa one day.

All you have to do is dream

Kubra Khan is back on the silver screen after a two-year hiatus since London Nahi Jaunga, with her new film Abhi. She can also be seen in the recently aired drama serial Noorjahan on TV. Kubra has not only overcome criticism for her Urdu dialogue delivery but has also significantly improved both her acting and dialogue delivery skills. She shared her perspective, saying, “I have this weakness in Urdu, but surprisingly, it never hinders me when I’m on set. It’s unbelievable, but I think it’s about the character.”

Kubra made a strong connection with audiences in Sinf-e-Ahan, which aired in 2021, playing the character Mahjabeen Mastaan—an overseas Pakistani businessman’s aristocratic-minded daughter obsessed with fashion. Many praised Kubra for this particular role. She also portrayed Jannat Ali Khan, a morning show host, in Jannat Se Aagay, which aired on Geo TV last year.

A versatile star

Kubra, a Gemini by star sign, is known for bringing positivity and energy to the sets. Whether it’s a film or TV serial, she knows how to captivate the screen with her charm. In a recent interview with Geo Digital, Kubra shed light on the diverse roles in her career.

Jannat Se Aagay

Jannat Se Aagay is a drama that revolves around themes of fame, power, and loneliness. Kubra, as the lead, played the character Jannat Ali Khan, a morning show host, with Ramsha Khan as the second lead. When asked about the difficulty of playing Jannat, Kubra shared: “It was challenging. The scenes filmed at home in Jannat Se Aagay were emotional and easy, but the scenes where I had to be the TV host were difficult. I am an introvert, and talking like a TV host was hard for me; I don’t talk like that.”

She also shared a memorable moment from the drama: “The scene with the python is a memory I will always cherish, but it was difficult because I was shooting with a real python. When I carried it in my hands and held it around my neck, the python started grabbing me from the back. I was afraid and praying for the scene to finish soon. But I think I did well; the viewers liked it, and that’s all we want.”

The TV host character was challenging for Kubra but memorable for the viewers. The hype was created as soon as the teasers for Jannat Se Aagay were released, with people assuming Kubra was doing a morning show soon. Talking about the complexity of the role, she said, “I played six or seven characters in Jannat Se Aagay. She was a mother, daughter, wife, host, and a celebrity. It was indeed challenging, but kudos to Haseeb Hassan, who brought to life in me, and Umera Ahmed, who wrote it beautifully—hats off to them.”

Her new film Abhi

When asked about surprising the viewers with her comeback in Abhi alongside Gohar Mumtaz, Kubra responded, “It was a surprise for many but not for us, as we had been working on this film for three years. The experience was amazing. The movie was shot in the mesmerizing locations of Kashmir. The scenic views in the film will definitely capture your heart. Filming in such heavenly places was amazing.”

Sharing details about her character Zara, she said, “Zara is an easy-going girl, full of life, and brings joy to everyone. This character is very relatable to me. When people watch the film, they will find Kubra Khan in Zara. I tried to talk as I do for this character. The film is beautifully blended with music; the songs are beautiful.”

working with Gohar Rasheed and Gohar Mumtaz

Gohar Rasheed and Kubra Khan were paired for Jannat Se Aagay. When we previously spoke with Gohar Rasheed about Kubra’s acting prowess, he remarked, “Kubra Khan is one of those actors who bring immense positivity to sets. Once she gets into character, she absolutely nails it. She immerses herself completely.” He chuckled and added, “woh ura ke rakh deti hai” (she blows you away completely).

When asked about her working experience with Gohar, Kubra shared, “Oh my God, Gohar is a really good friend, but I was nervous when we were doing Jannat Se Aagay. I was even shivering. You can catch me in one of the home scenes when I bring the kids home, and Gohar was sitting on the couch. It was the first scene, and people can see my shivering hands. I mean, I am Kubra Khan, but what was I going to do in front of Gohar Rasheed, who is a powerhouse of acting? It was that kind of feeling that I made sure to ask the director and Gohar after every scene if I did it perfectly.”

Reflecting on the experience of working with Gohar Mumtaz, she laughed and said, “I enjoyed each and every moment in Abhi because working with Gohar Mumtaz was amazing. He’s a great co-star because he made me feel very comfortable. We were hanging around, enjoying the Hari Wadiyan of Kashmir, and playing his songs on the sets whenever we had time after shooting.”

Conventional heroine

When asked, “Was there ever a conventional heroine in you, as we all grew up watching Bollywood?” Kubra laughed and replied, “No, I don’t watch Bollywood, but I really admire Jennifer Lawrence; she is amazing. However, I really want to work with Fahad Mustafa. I hope he is listening,” she chuckled.

While Eid has already come and gone by the time this article comes into print, we did ask Kubra about her plans when we interviewed her, to which she replied, “This Eid is going to be a blast for me because my birthday is on June 17th. “Meri To Double Eid Honey Wali hai,” she laughed with joy. We hope that the birthday month brings success and joy to the star.

Kubra Khan continues to captivate her audience with her charm and talent, both on and off screen. With Abhi releasing soon and several projects potentially on the horizon, Kubra Khan is an actor to watch. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to connect with audiences ensure an exciting future in the Pakistani entertainment industry. Her fans eagerly await her next move, knowing that Kubra Khan will undoubtedly continue to deliver performances that resonate and inspire. With her infectious enthusiasm and relentless drive, she is set to leave an indelible mark on the industry. Here’s wishing her a joyous and successful year ahead.
