Raees may be pushed to 2017

2016 has been dubbed as the year Shah Rukh Khan will reinvent himself. Maneesh Sharma’s Fan, which released to mixed reviews from both critics and fans, showed Khan going back to his nefarious, psychotic, anti-hero roots and proved why the actor has been going strong for decades. The next in this year’s line-up was going to be Raees, particularly special for the Pakistani audience since it stars actress Mahira Khan as the female lead.

However, word has it that the film, which was scheduled to release on Eid this year, may now release some time next year.

According to DNA India, SRK does not want to clash with Salman Khan’s Sultan, also slated for an Eid 2016 release. This leaves him with the option of releasing the film on Diwali, a popular choice of date and one that has proved to be lucky for King Khan over the years. However, Karan Johar’s multi-starrer Ae Dil Hai Mushkil will also hit theatres on Diwali. Christmas has been taken up by Aamir Khan’s Dangal and so SRK has no choice but to move the release of his film to January 2017.

“Shah Rukh is looking to postpone his film to 2017. He wants the date, January 26. But there is another film on that date – Hrithik Roshan’s home production Kaabil, directed by Sanjay Gupta. SRK has had a word with the Roshans. There are not many choices left. And he cannot indefinitely postpone the film. He has to take a call soon,” revealed an insider. We do hope it’s sooner than later!
