Actor-turned-musician Tipu Sharif is quietly building his resume with both music and acting projects. Having starred in several TV plays over the course of his career Sharif, who made his cinematic debut last year with Sarmad Khoosat’s Manto, is currently working on multiple projects including a film, a couple of music videos and at least two television serials.

Talking to Instep on the sidelines of the upcoming film Hijrat’s music release and meet-and-greet press exercise, where he was present to support the cast and crew of the film, Sharif remarked, “Right now I’m working on two drama serials. In addition, there is a movie that will come out sometime in July; it’s called Saavan, an action-based film short in parts of Balochistan and parts of Skardu. I’m looking forward to all of that. Plus there are two other music videos that are going to be coming along; one should be out by the end of April and the other by May.”

Reflecting on the much-talked about revival of cinema, Sharif, who has starred in popular TV plays like Main Abdul Qadir Hoon, Muhabbat Aag Se, Ahmed Habib Ki Betiyan in recent memory, noted: “Some very good films are being made but we have a long way to go. Better stories need to come out, the directors will start grasping the craft better and that will pave for films that can compete and match a global standard.”

Having worked in both cinema and television, Sharif admitted that he finds the medium of cinema easier to navigate.

“I’ve worked in two films; Manto and the upcoming film, Saavan. Films are easier because they are much more organized,” Sharif told Instep.

“The scripts are finalized beforehand. You can go to the set prepared and they shoot films in parts, not entire scenes. So when you shoot in cuts, as in parts of scenes, you actually get a lot of time to prepare for you character which makes it easy for an actor,” concluded Sharif.
