Mix it up when it comes to evening makeup. Don’t stick to one particular look. This week we have compiled some alluring evening makeup looks and tricks...

While summer is typically punctuated with barely there makeup and low-touch hairstyles, this season, things actually got a bit more interesting. The colours are brighter, the shapes more graphic, and the hairstyles exude an easy, but deliberate, elegance that we’re going ga-ga over.Evening glam

However, evening makeup is dramatically different than day makeup, as you can go a little crazy with evening makeup. Remember to differentiate between day and night make-up. Kohl-lined eyes with full blusher and lippy may work for a formal dinner but they are a complete no-no in the daytime. Keep daytime makeup subtle, with softer shades and a fresh natural look. Mix it up when it comes to evening makeup. Don’t stick to one particular look - try smokey eyes one day and glittery eyeshadow the next. Try to avoid the fully made up look - pair dramatic eyes with a nude lipstick or match red lipstick with a simple slick of mascara. Here are some alluring evening makeup looks and tricks:

Dark lipstick: No evening look is complete without adding a dark lipstick to your beauty arsenals. The perfect way to score a dark pout with finesse is to apply the first layer with a brush, creating a foundation and baseline and then fill it up with the lipstick. Blot your lips with blotting paper and then apply the second coat to make it last longer. Give your look an edge by adding thin eyeliner and sky-high lashes.

Instant glamour: Getting pretty, reflective lids couldn’t be simpler: Just smooth some petroleum jelly or clear, non-sticky lip balm over your lids. Whether you do this on bare lids or over shadow, this look gives you pop and flair for nighttime.Evening glam

Add some drama: Get in on the ‘80s retro-beauty action by playing up your cheekbones. More is more this season, especially for evening. Try using cream blush instead of powder to make the look current. Apply it with an angled blush brush, sucking in your cheeks and following the hollows under your cheekbones, moving up toward your ears. As for the colour, try a deeper shade than your usual, or go for it with bright fuchsia.

Get that glow: Fake a glow by applying a powder highlighter just in the right areas. Highlighter should be applied where the light hits on the face naturally and remember the mantra - a little is more. Apply some on the arch of brow bone, cheek bone and Cupid’s bow. This would help light to reflect, resulting in a glow.

Cat eye liner: Work lots of pencil liner right into the roots of your lashes, then wing it out a bit at the outer corners. Add plenty of mascara and you’ve got a look.

A cool twist for smokey eyes: If you believe smokey eyes are the perfect evening make-up look, the summer season is a perfect time to bring a twist to it. Instead of going all black, add some colour to your eyes. Blue, navy and emerald green are the shades that are all the rage these days. You can amp up your eye look by applying your eyeliner in a geometric shape. Since you are adding a lot of oomph to your eyes, keep the rest of the face simple. Apply a transparent gloss on your lips and light strokes of blush on your cheeks.

Evening glamFaux lashes: Makeup for the evening is all about drama and what would drama be without some thick and curly eyelashes? It’s time to stop thinking of falsies as tacky. Nothing will make your eyes as expressive as faux eyelashes. The tricks to getting them right: You’ll almost always need to trim a lash strip to fit your eye perfectly. If you’re clumsy, just snip it in half and use one piece on the outer corners of your eyes - much easier than getting the whole strip to lay flush.

Twinkle twinkle: If you’re looking to make yourself sparkle and shine, glitter is the way to go. Yes, glitter can be chic - the trick is to use it in moderation. Dip your finger into a glittery shadow (silver-white is one safe bet) and dab some in the center of your lid. It looks very flirtatious and fun and works with any skin tone and hair colour.

Be bold: If you are someone who doesn’t wear much makeup, try a bold lip with a bare face. It’s quick and easy and makes for a dramatic look. If you are feeling bold, add a full brow by filling in with a pencil a few shades lighter than your natural brow colour.

Show some hide some: Focus just on one facial feature, if you are going dramatic or bold on eyes, then keep rest of the makeup toned down by keeping it simple. Similarly, if you want bold lips, play down on cheeks and eyes. If you go with bold eyes and lips, the odds are that you will look like a clown and if you down play both you will end up with a lovely day look that just doesn’t work as a evening makeup look!
