 Dear Ed,

The cover story in the issue of today (11 March) was a bit different, but interesting to read. As a student of fashion designing, I can appreciate how hard it is to make a niche for one’s self in this highly exclusive and competitive field. The competition is not like it is in other fields; it’s cutthroat and downright dirty at times. So, in this scenario, someone’s success story is really inspiring! Thanks for highlighting this field! In the issue of last week (4 March) I loved the article ‘Poetry in motion’ by Nabeel Naqvi. Firstly, he doesn’t write very often for Us and secondly it was a fair and fitting tribute to the quality of Amir, who has been working very hard since his come back!

Dear Ed,

I have been reading your magazine for a year now, but I am not a very regular reader. I have too little time to read due to my tough studies. However, I collect magazines every Friday and go on binge reading when I have time. In the last issue, I loved the story ‘Parks and recreation’ by Asif Nawaz. Nabeel Naqvi’s ‘Poetry in motion’ was beautifully penned so worth reading. It was a beautiful piece on the comeback bowler Muhammad Amir. In today’s issue (11 March) I would like to praise the poem ‘I, too, sang for you’ by Zahra Akbar and ‘Plea’ by Zunaira Afzal. The art work on the back page, ‘Cherry Blossom’ by Maha Murtaza was first rate. Keep up the good work!

Dear Editor,

I have been reading Us for a long time, but this is my first letter to you. The reason I am writing this missive is to praise ‘Parks and recreation’ by Asif Nawaz (4 March). What a brilliant writer this guy is! How lucky you are to have such a great asset! I enjoy reading his articles but this one about my city floored me totally! I have one piece of advice to Asif: drop whatever you do and become a full time writer. Go global; you will become rich like Robin Cook! Don’t waste your talent by doing something else.

Dear Ed,

This is my first letter, ever. I have not written a letter to anyone because texting is so much easier, but I realised that I need to get across a couple of thing to you people, and cannot do it via text!

Firstly, in this day and age when people are more computer savvy than ever before, I bet most of your readership constitute of online readers. Now, why would people continue to read Us online when it is so difficult to access and navigate your site. I suggest you improve your web edition because we all know you have no intention of raising the quality of your print version. On the Facebook page, I saw pictures of Us used as wrapper for naans. I am sorry to say I bought samosas wrapped up by the cover page with picture of three witches on a broomstick. I hope Saad Javed never had a similar experience! I hate to see the mag I grew up with in such sorry state. Please do something.

A concerned reader

Corrigendum

In the issue of 4 March, the cover story ‘Parks and recreation’ written by Asif Nawaz, was illustrated by Abdul Rahim Ashraf, whose name was inadvertently left out. The error is genuinely regretted.

Narrated by Ibn Umar (R.A)

I heard Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) saying, “All of you are guardians and responsible for your charges: the Ruler (i.e. Imam) is a guardian and responsible for his subjects; and a man is a guardian of his family and is responsible for his charges; and a lady is a guardian in the house of her husband and is responsible for her charge; and a servant is a guardian of the property of his master and is responsible for his charge.” I think he also said, “And a man is a guardian of the property of his father.”
