One of the most anticipated Middle East awards show, the GR8! Women Awards is back this season. Now in its sixth year, the ceremony will honour top women achievers from the Middle East right from Kuwait to Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar as well as India and Pakistan.

Two Pakistanis have been the proud recipients of the trophy so far. Leading Pakistani journalist Sidra Iqbal was the first Pakistani to have ever been nominated for and awarded on this particular international award forum. President of Hum TV Network, Sultana Siddiqui was the second recipient who was recognised for her contribution to the entertainment industry with the Scroll of Honour Award at the fifth GR8! Women Awards.

This year, the Awards will be held with the aim of felicitating the phenomenal work done by women in the region. Right from Banking and Finance to Healthcare, Entertainment and Humanitarian, the spotlight will be on women who have set a benchmark in various fields.

Further, the evening will host a glamorous fashion show where the city’s top models will walk the ramp and showcase dazzling collections by renowned Indian as well as international designers. Every year, the high fashion black tie evening attracts Dubai’s crème de la crème including people from all walks of life such as dignitaries, industry leaders, corporate heads, celebrities, and entrepreneurs.

Launched 15 years ago in India by Anu and Shashi Ranjan, editor and publisher of GR8! TV magazine, respectively, the Awards have successfully helped to create awareness on relevant issues concerning women in the subcontinent.

Last year has seen many Pakistani women who have left a strong impression in fields as diverse as Entertainment and Science. The most prominent being Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Nergis Mavalvala, who went on to detect Einstein’s gravitational force. Whether the trophy comes to Pakistan this year or not, we will only know on the 19th of March when the awards are scheduled to take place in Dubai.
