MY TEENAGE YEARS

Versatile and enterprising - Arsalan IqbalStar and date of birth

Sagittarius; December 16th, 1985.

The best thing about being a teenager

During my teen-hood, social media was not such a rage as it is today. I didn’t have a cell phone till I was 19, which was almost at the tail-end of my teen years. It was great then; it’s fine now.

I was always listening to

Anything .

I was glued to the TV to watch

Nothing; I was barely home.

My favourite movie was

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), the one with Gary Oldman playing the title role. It still remains my favourite film.

My favourite actor

Shah Rukh Khan was great back then.  But my first cinematic loves were Marlon Brando, Meryl Streep and Jodie Foster.

My favourite singer/band

I had a few favourites, including Junoon, NFAK and NSYNC whom I still remember fondly from the old days. I still reminisce and listen to them sometimes. Music is a very important part of my life.

My room was full of

Surprises! (Laughs)

My room walls carried the posters of

I was never a poster type of guy. But I did own a poster of a chopper from the 1984-88 CBS series ‘Airwolf’ which I saved, but never hung on the wall of my bedroom.

Clothes of which not all were mine; I have brothers.

My most precious possession

None; I never hold onto things.

My friends were

The same who are still in my life today.

My first crush

You mean crushes?!

Versatile and enterprising - Arsalan IqbalMy favourite hang-out

A particular umbrella shade at the beach; surprisingly, it’s still there and I still visit it! I used to spend hours there alone listening to music and writing about everything I observed.

What hurt me the most

Nothing back then.

I couldn’t stand

Mis-commitments; I still can’t.

My dream was to become

I have fulfilled my dream of becoming a successful fashion designer.

I wish I had known then

That life isn’t as complicated as I thought it was then.  My life is pretty straightforward now. But I do like drama. (Smiles)

Advice for aspiring fashion designers

Hang on. Keep innovating. You will eventually reap the fruits of your labour. Lose hope and you’ve lost the game!
