Lawn Review # 2

The country’s leading high street brand and winner of countless Lux Style Awards, Khaadi is the most quintessentially Pakistani brand that you can get your hands on. While Khaadi opened its doors back in 1998 with hand woven fabric, its signature lawn was a much later induction but one that was wholeheartedly embraced by all lawn fanatics. While Khaadi has been growing from strength to strength, this year’s lawn collection left us a tad bit underwhelmed. Here is the lowdown on how it fared on our four-point criteria:

Quality

Khaadi lawn, without doubt, is one of the most refined lawns available in Pakistan. Its quality is impeccable. It is light, breezy and soft and at the same time doesn’t cling to the body. The best thing about Khaadi lawn is that it manages to take you through the day without wrinkling out horribly. It’s durable and can hold its own while being breathable in the scorching summer heat.

Design Innovation

Design is the department where Khaadi disappointed, slightly, this year. One understands that floral patterns evoke a sense of simplistic femininity and are a perennial favourite amongst women, but there is only so much bloom one can endure in a collection. At a time when designers are experimenting with prints - incorporating both geometric elements as well as figurines – Khaadi played it very safe. And while some prints and embroideries in darker colour palettes of cobalt blues and fresh greens were a much-welcome inclusion, the largely pastel abounded range was unexciting. On the whole, Volume 1 left us longing for last year’s hugely popular bandhini-inspired prints. Perhaps Volume 2 would be more interesting.

Value for Money

There is something to suit everyone’s budget at Khaadi. Priced between PKR 1800 to PKR 6400, the collection includes a wide variety of options to meet your wardrobe needs. There are two-piece packs (shirt and dupatta) for those who like pairing their outfits with neutral bottoms, three-piece suits with lawn dupattas for daily use and four-piece fully embroidered suits with add-ons and chiffon dupattas for a more formal affair. All in all, Khaadi lawn is good value for money.

Wow Factor

Khaadi has always been one of the most-anticipated lawns of the year and the price range is what pushes women into frenzy, year after year. The only thing that takes away from Khaadi’s wow factor is how common the prints become. The volumes are high and given the popularity, there is a 90% chance that you will bump into another woman wearing the same print as yours, one day or the other.
