Actress Ushna Shah of Bashar Momin fame, who is currently playing the lead in drama serial Ab Kar Meri Rafugari, is all set to make her big screen debut with Jawad Bashir’s next cinematic venture.

In a quick telephone conversation with Instep, Shah revealed that she will be playing the female lead opposite Mohib Mirza, whose latest release Bachaana has opened to decent reviews. The untitled film is a romantic comedy that will also star another male lead who hasn’t been finalized yet. “It’s a love triangle which revolves mostly around the girl,” the actress shared about the film.

Even though Shah preferred not to reveal much about her upcoming film since things have not been finalized so far, she shared a few details about her role. “My role in this film is multi-dimensional and this is something I’ve always wanted to do. The girl I am playing in the film has studied abroad (Canada). She is a confident, free-spirited and empowered young woman who falls in love – with two people, sort of,” Shah revealed.

Shah, who has always been very vocal against the portrayal of women as damsels in distress even though she has played one several times (read: Bashar Momin, Duaa), agreed to do this film only because of the kind of role she was being offered. “Whatever scripts I have been offered so far, were always male-oriented and I didn’t want to do a supporting role in a male-dominant film,” she maintained. “This one is an empowering film because it doesn’t portray the girl as a ‘bechari’. It’s very different from the roles I have done on television. The girl has a conflict of heart between two guys. She, sort of, falls for both but she isn’t a bad person,” she added.

According to Shah, this film is for everyone and women, in particular, are going to love it. Expected to release later this year, the film also stars Salman Shahid and Mohsin Abbas Haider of Na Maloom Afraad in important roles.
