US MAIL
Hi Ed,
I read Us magazine during my summer vacation last year and since then I impatiently wait for it. I love your articles, poetry, opinion pieces, Trust Us section and Comic Relief.
Us is a perfect combination for competitive youth who are keen to read and write. I especially liked an article by Fajar Butt ‘An open letter to Mark Zuckerburg’ (Jan 22, 2016), as the writer suggested a very impactful and good solution to the problems faced by Facebook users.
In this connection, I want to inquire regarding your Facebook page. Can you guys paste the link of your Facebook page?
And, moreover, what about guest posts? Do you guys accept freelance stories from readers? And do you pay for them?
Overall, keep up the good work!
Mehreen K, Lahore
Hi, Mehreen! Thank you for your appreciation. Here, at Us, we strive to make each issue a special one. As for your queries, yes, we do have a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Usmagfortheyouth/) and we do take contributions from our readers, and pay for the articles and stories published in due time. We don’t pay for poems and art work.
First timers’ corner
Hello Ed,
Hope you are all doing great. This is my first ever letter to Us, and I hope it gets published. I have been reading Us magazine regularly for the past four years now. I must say that it’s the best magazine ever and you guys have put up a monumental effort in making the magazine quintessential.
Ed, I would love to write for your magazine. Please explain in detail the process for sending my stories to Us. Also, let me know about the word limit for the stories’ section. Do we have to send illustrations or not?
Varda Irfan, Islamabad
Hi, Varda! We are delighted to hear from you. Criticism, good or bad and every now and then, helps us improve every week. Writing for our magazine is easy and simple if you have the talent to pen stories pertaining to youth. The word count for one page is 550-650 words, and for a two-page story it is 1100-1200; it is not necessary for you to send us illustrations.
Dear Editor,
Reading the tribute to Faiza Hameed in today’s Us (February 26), one of my favourite writers, made me feel rather ‘nostalgic’ for me. I use this particular word because she does not write any more. Or if she has written anything recently, I have missed it. The pictures that went with the articles were cute and interesting! Good to see her pictures! Faiza has a great way with words and I hope she continues to write for Us!
In the same issue, I also enjoyed reading ‘Cutting loose’ by Huda Ahmed Khan. I think it’s high time girls grow up and stop making a cake out of themselves!
Samia Askari, Karachi
Dear Editor,
The coverage of Karachi Literature Festival was awesome! I like reading stuff by Lubna Jerar Naqvi and Shermeen Zuberi’s account was also interesting. I enjoyed reading the interview of Shanaz Ramzi very much, because I want to become an anchor and a facilitator, and Shanaz’s answers clarified a couple of things for me. But I have a bone to pick with you! Lahore Literature Festival was ignored by you completely. Though there were a few bloopers, I bet it was every bit as good as Karachi Literature Festival. At times I feel Lahore is ignored by you people!
Nargis Choudhry, Lahore
Hey Nargis! We don’t ignore Lahore at all! Or for that matter, any other part of the country. The reason you didn’t see anything about Lahore Literature Festival was no one sent us any writer-up about it to Us! Next time any event of such importance takes place in Lahore, you are welcome to send us a write-up about it!
Reflection
Narrated
by Abu Huraira (R.A)
The Prophet (S.A.W) said, “If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel saying, ‘Allah loves so and-so; O Gabriel! Love him.’ Gabriel would love him and make an announcement amongst the inhabitants of the Heaven. ‘Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him also,’ and so all the inhabitants of the Heaven would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth.”
