Aamir Liaquat laid to rest at Abdullah Shah Ghazi cemetery

KARACHI: After much delay over an autopsy, famous TV personality and PTI MNA Aamir Liaquat Hussain was laid to rest on Friday at the Abdullah Shah Ghazi graveyard in Karachi.

A large number of people, including Hussain's family and friends, attended the funeral prayers. Former governor of Sindh Imran Ismail and former Karachi mayor Farooq Sattar also joined the last rites. 

Social worker Ramzan Chhipa performed the ghusl (the process of washing and shrouding the deceased ahead of burial) of the PTI MNA.

 The funeral prayers were offered after the police agreed to hand over the Hussain's body to his son, Ahmed, as the impasse between his family and the authorities over his autopsy finally ended.

The last rites of Aamir Liaquat were delayed as a deadlock persisted over his postmortem examination between the police and his family.

The police, in a bid to determine the exact cause of his death, decided to postpone the burial of PTI MNA until an autopsy was carried out on his body. His children, Ahmed Aamir and Dua-e-Aamir, refused to allow the autopsy.

However, the police did not want to hand over the body to his family without an autopsy.

In view of the situation, Hussain’s daughter and ex-wife approached the judicial magistrate Karachi East against the autopsy.

However, at the directives of the police high-ups, the process to ascertain the cause of his death under Section 174 of the criminal procedure code had been stopped.

The 50-year-old televangelist passed away on Thursday. The news of his untimely death sent shock waves across the country.

Hussain had revealed in one of his recent video statements that he had booked a grave in the graveyard of Abdullah Shah Ghazi's shrine. His parents, politician Sheikh Liaquat Hussain and columnist Mahmooda Sultana, are also buried at the same spot and he will be laid to rest beside them.

Police seal Aamir Liaquat's house

Hussain's house was sealed on Thursday as the police launched investigations into his sudden death. Soon after his death, the police said that his family refused to allow the doctors to carry out an autopsy and had asked for some time to make a decision regarding that.

The PTI leader was found unconscious at his home in Karachi's Khudad Colony and shifted to a private hospital in critical condition.

Hussain reportedly felt chest discomfort on Wednesday night but refused to go to the hospital. His employee, Javed, said a scream was heard from Hussain's room at around 12pm on Thursday and when they entered the room he was lying on a sofa.

His domestic staff broke down his room's door when they did not receive any reply from him. Later, the doctors said that Hussain was dead when he was brought to the hospital.
