Meghan Markle may no longer be living in the UK as a working member of the British royal family but she is continuing to support the charities she cares about.

A whopping amount of $13,700 was donated by the Duchess of Sussex from The Royal Foundation to a UK-based community project tackling poverty, racism and social exclusion, called Himmah.

The amount donated by the duchess also includes additional proceeds that she raised by selling her 2018-released recipe book, titled Together: Our Community Cookbook, for the Hubb Community Kitchen.

Himmah’s press release announced that the former actor’s donation will be used to stock the food bank of the organization, to purchase equipment and also to extend funds for the Salaam Shalom Kitchen—which is the only Jewish and Muslim community kitchen in the UK.

It was further revealed that Meghan made the decision of providing financial assistance to the group to "continue transforming lives through the power of cooking and food."

Speaking about the donation by the duchess, the director of Himmah, Sajid Mohammed spoke to BAZAAR.com and said: "For ages I thought the whole thing was a hoax! They kept emailing me and ringing me about the donation saying it was from the Duchess of Sussex and I just couldn't believe it—I was utterly gobsmacked and hugely humbled that Meghan knew about our charity and wanted to support us.”

Co-chair and trustee of Salaam Shalom Kitchen, Karen Worth said: "We are so delighted and pleased that Salaam Shalom Kitchen has been noticed and chosen by the Duchess of Sussex. The money given to us by her foundation will help to continue our important work in Hyson Green area of Nottingham, which is one the most deprived areas of the city."
