KARACHI: Pakistan Meteorological Department in its latest warning Monday said the deep depression over east central Arabian Sea has intensified further into a Tropical Cyclone (01A) and now lies centered around 750 km south of Karachi.
This Tropical Cyclone is likely to move north northwestward in next 24 hrs and the sea conditions along Sindh Makran coast are likely to remain rough to very rough occasionally high associated with stormy winds from Monday afternoon to Friday.
Chief Meteorologist and In charge Cyclone Warning Centre Karachi Naeem Shah talking to APP said rain thundershowers are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Thatta and Badin and Sujawal districts of lower Sindh in next 24 hours to 48 hrs.
He particularly mentioned that fishermen of Sindh have been strictly advised not to venture in open sea from Monday afternoon to Thursday.
Whereas fishermen from Balochistan must not to be in open sea from Tuesday to Friday.
Director General of Provincial Disaster Management Authority Sindh Syed Saman Shah responding to queries raised by APP said a contingency plan to address emerging situation is already in place.
We do not want to create any panic among the people but are cognizant and fully prepared to handle any difficult situation provided it occurs said the PDMA Sindh chief.
He said district disaster management authority (DDMA) in Karachi East West South Central Malir Korangi respectively along with those in Thatta Badin Sujawal and Tharparkar have also been activated.
Our major focus would also be the low lying areas expected to be inundated and for this all arrangement are in place for needed emergency said PDMA Sindh's chief.
In reply to a question he said provincial government has already taken on board all its departments and consequently the home department has imposed section 144 in the entire coastal belt of the province while local government department has already taken needed preparedness and response measures.
These he said included removal of bill boards and hoarding so as to avoid any sort of casualty or injuries in case the expected strong winds lead to their fall.
Karachi Electric (KE) and other civic agencies have also been made to ensure uninterrupted power supply to pumping stations for drainage of rain water.
To another query he agreed that instances of electrocution and associated risks to people is an issue that has been attended to be addressed through secured transmission lines.
