Two Sindh Police officials suspended for ‘helping Indians to stay illegally’

KARACHI: Two officials of Sindh Police have been suspended for allegedly helping Indian citizens to stay illegally in Pakistan after taking bribes from them.
According to our correspondent Talha Hashmi’s report, the suspended officials were involved in issuing special certificates, essential for extending leave to remain in Pakistan, upon receiving handsome amount in bribes.
An investigation has been launched into the issue as more officials are suspected of being involved in the scam.
On receiving complaints about Special Branch officers of Sindh Police assisting Indian citizens in extending their stay and remaining illegally in the country, concerned authorities suspended Mohammad Naeem and Abdul Waheed.
Waheeed had been suspended in connection with taking bribes in the past also. However, he was recently reinstated on his post purportedly upon putting ‘pressure’ on high-ranked officers.
Meanwhile, few more names of the officials belonging to Special Branch’s Security Unit have surfaced in the scam. Process of collecting evidence against them has been initiated.
A senior officer, on condition of anonymity, has confirmed that more arrests had been made in the past upon intelligence reports over the same issue.
The certificate in question provides legal protection to Indians staying illegally in Pakistan.
After emergence of irrefutable evidence of Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing’s (RAW) involvement in few recent terror acts in the country, sensitive institutions have intensified surveillance of matters of such kind also.
