A Muslim man was forced to eat pork on Monday by a group of a Hindus in the Indian state of Assam for allegedly selling beef. According to reports, the Muslim man shown in a video circulating, identified as 68-year-old Shaukat Ali, was attacked by a mob in a market in Biswanath district, where he was questioned regarding his identity as he kneeled on the ground.
NEW DELHI: A Muslim man was forced to eat pork on Monday by a group of a Hindus in the Indian state of Assam for allegedly selling beef.
According to reports, the Muslim man shown in a video circulating, identified as 68-year-old Shaukat Ali, was attacked by a mob in a market in Biswanath district, where he was questioned regarding his identity as he kneeled on the ground.
"Are you Bangladeshi? Is your name in the NRC (National Register of Citizens)?”, a man in the video can be heard saying.
It was revealed further by the Biswanath district police superintendent Rakesh Roshan stated that a complaint was filed by the victim asserting that he had been assaulted at the hands of the mob who forced him to eat pork.
Assam Director General of Police Kuladhar Saika stated regarding the incident: “A case have been registered under the appropriate sections, and police are investigating the matter. The Superintendent of Police has been instructed to go strong about it. Nobody will be spared. The guilty will be punished, and the police have increased vigilance across the place. There is no cause for fear at all; the people are free to come out and vote freely.”
