Acclaimed Pakistani singer and philanthropist Shehzad Roy has come out in support of famed actress Mehwish Hayat after her Tamgha-e-Imtiaz caused an uproar on social media that had caused netizens to criticise her for not having done enough to be worthy of the award.
Roy took to social media to admire all women in the media who despite all the hate continue to work hard untiringly.
The 'Tera Mukhra Haseen' singer tweeted on Tuesday lending support to women in the field of arts, particularly to support Mehwish Hayat in which he stated:
“People waste no opportunity to tear down the Arts & women in PK. So ofcourse if a woman wins an award in Arts,all hell wud break lose.U @MehwishHayat won the debate tht followed & created an enabling enviroment for women from arts to come fwd.& when they do,trolls wil think twice."
Shehzad also praised Hayat in his tweet after she received Tamgha-e-Imtiaz:
“Recognition thorough this award at such a young age would be such a great feeling for your family. Many more to go @MehwishHayat."
Roy himself was awarded with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2005.
Not only Shehzad but acclaimed Hamid Mir author also praised Mehwish Hayat after she made a tweet slamming her haters over her award.
Mir stated in his tweet:
“Ignore negative propaganda and learn to live in an intolerant society by promoting tolerance accept my congrats on receiving a national award on Pakistan day you deserved it because you performed very well in recent films.”
Moreover, celebrated singer Ali Zafar and actress Nadia Jamil also took to social media to stand by Hayat.
Mehwish Hayat was conferred Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on 23rd March by President Arif Alvi.
