NEW DELHI: In a bid to clear themselves after Pakistan's surprise hit, the joint press briefing of the Indian military officials on Thursday turned out to be an apology of the highest order as none of them could answer to the probing questions asked by the media persons.
During the media interaction, three of the military officials , including Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor, Major General Surinder Singh Mahal and Rear Admiral Dalbir Singh Gujral appeared to be clueless and confused throughout the press briefing and failed to provide satisfactory explanation or evidence to back up India’s claims of the number of casualties and the proof of shooting down an F-16.
It is pertinent to note that Pakistan Air Force had shot down Indian fighter aircraft on Wednesday for violating airspace along Line of Control (LoC) and had taken into custody an Indian pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday announced that Pakistan will release captured IAF pilot on Friday (today) as a peace gesture.
India claimed to have shot down a Pakistani jet but have not been able to provide satisfactory evidences in this regard. To pacify their countrymen ahead of crucial polls, Indian government had made tall claims of responding to PAF strikes.
Their media showed picture of a metal fragment from F-16 but that too turned out to be fake.
When Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor was asked if he could put a number on the casualties India claimed to have inflicted on the 'terrorist camp' in Balakot, he said it was "still premature" for him to do so.
