KARACHI: Hours after hurling serious allegations at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), SSP Malir Rao Anwar late on Thursday was dismissed from his post, a police spokesman said.
According to the Sindh Police spokesman, SSP East Pir Mohammad Shah has been given the additional charge of SSP Malir. Anwar has been directed to report at the Central Police Office, he added.
The spokesman said that Anwar misused his authority without elaborating it any further.
He, earlier in the day made serious allegations against the MQM claiming the party was working against Pakistan on the behest of India.
Anwar claimed that two terror suspect arrested on Wednesday night belong to the MQM, which he alleged had links with Indian spy agency RAW to destabilise Pakistan.
The press conference drew strong reaction from the MQM, which said that the matter would be taken to the court.
Speaking to Geo News, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the government was not taken onboard about the press conference Anwar held earlier on Thursday. He said it was not the police officer’s responsibility to hold a media talk regarding arrested suspects.
He said police officers were not allowed to discuss political affairs on TV and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah took serious notice of his media interactions, dismissing him from his post.
Responding to MQM’s allegation that a script was written against the party at a meeting held at the CM House on Wednesday night, he said the ongoing operation in Karachi would carry on without any discrimination.
