NEW DELHI: At least 40 people were killed and several others were injured after a new wave of massive sand and thunder storms hit northern India on Sunday.
According to Indian media, at least 18 people were killed by hail and thunder storms that brought down walls, trees and power pylons in Uttar Pradesh state, while another 12 people were killed in West Bengal, nine by lightning bolts in Andhra Pradesh and two in the capital New Delhi. Indira Gandhi International Airport was closed and flights remained grounded for several hours because of the winds.
The new weave of violent storms came just 10 days after when storms had killed 140 in the same region.
