BANGALORE: Hours after former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi’s tweet on Kashmir the Indian media approached cricket team skipper Virat Kholi to react to it, who smartly distanced himself from indulging into any controversy, saying he doesn’t want to engage in the issue unless he has total knowledge and the intricacies of it.
Responding to a question during his media talks, the Indian captain said; “It’s a very personal choice for someone to comment about certain issues. Unless I have total knowledge of the issues & the intricacies of it I don’t engage in it but definitely your priority stays with your nation.”
While some media persons distorted Kholi's statement, making the headlines giving a negative aspect to his remarks against Shahid Afridi what Indian skipper did not make at all.
Kohli who is currently practicing for the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) said that as an Indian his interests are always for the benefit of the nation.
“As an Indian you want to express what is best for your nation & my interests are always for the benefit of our nation. If anything opposes it, I would never support it for sure,” Virat Kohli said when asked about Shahid Afridi’s tweet.
Since Afridi raised his voice against Indian brutalities in held Kashmir and wanted the United Nations to intervene to stop the bloodshed, the Indian media went into a frenzy and started to bring him to disrepute among his millions of fans for his humanitarian stance to support the suppressed people being targeted by Indian forces.
While the Afridi's fans rallied behind him and launched a tit-for-tat response to support their favorite cricketer who as a human expressed his pain over Indian atrocities in the occupied Kashmir.
Meanwhile, UN chief Antonio Guterres also expressed his concerns over the situation in Held Kashmir and wants all member states including India to protect civilians.
Let's see if Indian media would turn biased against UN chief too as it did in response to Afridi's statement, calling for measures to stop bloodshed in disputed territory.
