LAHORE: In a case of mistaken identities, it was revealed that a person known as Ikram-ul-Haq Lahori was erroneously thought to be Akram Lahori, the co-founder of proscribed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi who was to be executed on January 8.

Reportedly, the real convict Akram Lahori, who was involved in the killing of Imtiaz Haider, was in fact never transferred from Sindh to Punjab for investigations since 12 years.

According to sources, Ikram-ul-Haq had been sentenced to death for being convicted for one murder.

The Punjab Home Ministry had even lauded the captors and both the ministry as well as police had all along been thinking that they had the right person.

The real Akram Lahori was involved in the killings of Imtiaz Haider, brother of former interior Minister Moinuddin Haider, and twenty four people in Mominpura.
He was also involved in more than 30 sectarian killings including attacks on Iranian cadets in Rawalpindi and Iranian ambassador Sadiq Gunji.

The police was also unaware that Akram Lahori had been captured in 2002 in Karachi and currently he was in Sukkur Jail.

Although the victim’s family had forgiven Ikram-ul-Haq Lahori, who had been sentenced for committing one murder, resulting in a halt to his execution, however, the police officials still till this day accepted appreciation from the Chief Minister for actually capturing Akram Lahori.

The police in fact have yet to present any of Akram Lahori's cases in court leave alone indict him for any of his purported crimes.
