MUMBAI: The eve to 63rd Jio Filmfare Awards 2018 brought honor to a Pakistani actress Saba Qamar when a Bollywood film 'Hindi Medium' was declared the Best Movie of the Year 2017 here at a colourful show on Sunday night.
The Pakistani TV and film artist had acted in the film along with popular Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, who also won the Best Actor (Male) award in the same movie.
Saba Qamar, who had acted in a Pakistani film, ‘Lahore sey Aagey’, released in 2016, made her Bollywood debut in 'Hindi Medium' by doing a leading role with Irrfan.
Saba was nominated in the category of Best Actor (Female) in her debut film but the award went to a renowned Indian actress Vidya Balan in the movie 'Tumhari Sulu'. This turned out to be sixth Filmfare award for her- this time for her passionate portrayal of a middle-aged homemaker who switches interest as a radio jockey in the film.
The star-studded event went with performances particularly by Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar , while Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan kept the cheers ongoing hosting alongside Director Karan Johar at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Mumbai.
While Aamir Khan's ‘Secret Superstar’ has been exceeding his additional blockbuster ‘Dangal’ worldwide as well as at the Box Office, with a whopping $ 6.79 million target, Secret Star was also showcased at the Awards with Best Playback Singer (Female) Meghna Mishra for Nachdi phira -- including Critics’ Award for Best Actor (Female) as well as Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female) owing to another Bollywood debutante Zaira Wasim and Meher Vij in that order.
