ISLAMABAD: Former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday ruled out any possibility of a meeting with deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif a day after Sharif said he was willing to shake hands with the PPP leader without any condition for the sake of country and democracy.
Citing unnamed sources, Geo TV reported that efforts to arrange a meeting between Zardari and Sharif were underway for three to four months.
The fourth and last effort seems to have failed after Asif Ali Zardari said chance of shaking hands with Sharif was out of question.
According to Geo TV, Zardari considers Sharif responsible for the current political situation.
The PPP leader thinks Sharif seeks refuge in Charter of Democracy when he finds himself in trouble.
The TV channel quoted the former president as saying “We have always been stabbed, PPP signed Charter of Democracy which proved damaging for the party while Nawaz Sharif abandoned it at the last moment”.
On Wednesday, senior PPP leader Khursheed Shah said Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has requested him to arrange his meeting with senior leadership of his party.
Earlier, Khawaja Asif had conceded that Nawaz Sharif asked him to woo Asif Zardari but he failed to accomplish the task.
