Panama verdict mentions Mario Puzo’s “Godfather”

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday announced a split verdict on Panama Papers case and ordered formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the money trail of the Sharif family.

The 500-plus pages verdict authored by Justice Ejaz began with an epigraph “Behind every great fortune there is a crime” from Mario Puzo’s acclaimed novel "The Godfather".

The verdict collation logically exceeded, “The secret of a great success for which you are at a loss to account is a crime that has never been found out, because it was properly executed.”

Panama judgment made a vision to the explanation further, “It is ironical and a sheer coincidence that the present case revolves around that very sentence attributed to Balzac as through Constitution Petition No. 29 of 2016.”

Godfather is a crime-based novel where the story is consistent of a fictional Mafia family. The family erupts a criminal organization with national influence, notably protection, gambling and union racketeering.
