Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United star and one of England’s greatest players, has donated £500,000 worth of toys and gifts to make sure that no children goes without a present on Christmas in Manchester.
“As a father myself I couldn’t see children going without opening a present this Christmas Day,” he said in a statement, calling on the citizens of Manchester to get behind what he is doing.
The 38 years old athlete made this donation last week on behalf of himself and his Manchester restaurant Rosso after seeing first hand “good work” of the Manchester radio station, according to local media.
Huge number of children’s toys and gifts are said to have been sent to Mission Christmas warehouse, where they would be distributed to children in need.
“Me and the guys at Rosso have seen what's been going on in the city, and with obviously it being Christmas we know there are a lot of people less fortunate than we are so we've decided to donate £500,000 worth of toys and gifts,” Rio Ferdinand was quoted as saying.
