Meta's WhatsApp releasing new feature for channels
New feature expected to significantly enhance user experience by making content retrieval faster, more efficient
Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is releasing a feature, which will let users to browse channel photos, videos, GIFs, and links, and it's available to some beta testers.
This feature would allow users to save specific updates within a channel for easy access later, similar to how starred messages work in individual and group chats, reported WABetaInfo.
By making it easier to retrieve important updates without having to scroll through the entire channel history, it can improve user convenience.
In certain situations, the earlier process was time-consuming and frustrating, especially when searching for media in channels that frequently share a high volume of updates.
Additionally, the lack of a dedicated media and links section made it difficult for users to quickly locate important content, especially if they couldn’t recall any specific text to help narrow down the search.
WhatsApp has also introduced a dedicated section for media and links within the channel info screen to address this issue.
Moreover, this section operates in a similar way to the one already available in the chat info screen for individual and group conversations. Users can easily scroll through all photos, videos, and GIFs shared in a channel without having to manually search through older updates by accessing this section.
This improvement is expected to significantly enhance the user experience by making content retrieval faster and more efficient.
As they can now locate them in just a few taps, users will no longer need to remember the exact date or context of a shared media file or link.
Ensuring that users can always access relevant information with ease, the new feature can also be particularly useful for channels that share frequent announcements, news updates, or multimedia content.
