Sean 'Diddy' Combs' last-ditch effort blows up weeks ahead of trial
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' trial is set to begin in May despite his recent efforts to push the date back
Sean “Diddy” Combs won’t be getting extra time to prepare for his federal trial.
According to CNN and Reuters, a judge shot down the hip-hop mogul’s recent bid to delay proceedings, keeping his May 5 court date locked in.
Combs appeared in a Manhattan courtroom Friday, April 18, where U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian made it clear he didn’t see enough reason to push the trial.
“[It’s] unclear why there isn’t sufficient time to prepare,” he told the defense team, who had argued prosecutors were slow in handing over materials related to an updated indictment filed in April.
The Bad Boy Records founder faces serious federal charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering — charges that could result in life behind bars if convicted.
Hours ahead of his Friday courtroom appearance, Combs also pushed to exclude key video evidence allegedly showing him assaulting ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a 2016 hotel altercation, as reported by People magazine.
Combs' lawyers claim the footage aired by CNN was "altered, manipulated, sped up, and edited to be out of sequence" and that the original tape was destroyed.
CNN, however, says the footage was never tampered with, and the original remains with the source.
Combs, who has pleaded not guilty, remains in custody at MDC-Brooklyn after being denied bail last year.
