The Last of Us has been reinstated by HBO for third season, ahead of the premiere of season two.
After the success of first season, adaptation of 2013 PlayStation game of the same name, for the massive 2020’s The Last of Us II the creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann planned to split its events into multiple seasons.
In an interview with Variety about season two, Mazin said that he always felt the series has "one or two more seasons" before reaching the end of "part II."
"It’s getting harder to make, because every episode gets big," he said. "You don’t want to wait four years for a 17-episode finish, or whatever it is."
Set in a post-apocalyptic world decimated by a fungal pandemic that transforms infected people into zombies.
The Last of Us was premiered in 2023 and earned 24 Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
Expressing his gratitude to the fans and Mazin, Druckmann said, "To see The Last of Us brought to life so beautifully and faithfully has been a career highlight for me, and I am grateful for the fans’ enthusiastic and overwhelming support."
He continued, "Much of that success is thanks to my partner in crime, Craig Mazin, our partnership with HBO, and our team at PlayStation Productions."
The Last of Us stars, Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley.
New cast members include, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Tati Gabrielle, Catherine O’Hara and many more.
The Last of Us season two is set to premiere on April 13.
