Judy Garland’s daughter, Lorna Luft, revealed how her mother would’ve viewed the Oscar nominated film, Wicked.
During the opening night of Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends on Broadway, Luft told People magazine, "She would’ve loved it [Wicked]."
When asked which song would have been her mother's favorite, she said, "I have no idea, but she would have loved it."
Garland, who died in 1969, starred as Dorothy Gale in 1939 adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz.
Wicked is a prequel of Wizard of Oz, telling the tale of Wicked Witch of West, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Good Witch of South, Glinda (Ariana Grande).
The film was based on Stephen Schwartz’s Tony-winning Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was based on Gregory Maguire’s novel. It offers a heartfelt look at the importance of friendship and nuances of politics.
Wicked earned 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. It won for best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
The upcoming sequel Wicked: For Good will release on November 21, 2025, however, it is unclear if Dorothy character will make cameo in second part.
