Meghan Markle U-turns after insisting on 'Sussex' title
The Duchess of Sussex infamously insisted on using 'Sussex' as her last name instead of 'Markle'
It looks like Meghan Markle isn’t that keen on the Sussex name after all.
In the debut episode of her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, Meghan dropped both “Markle” and “Sussex,” introducing herself with just one name: “I’m Meghan,” she said at the top of the episode.
This shift comes just a month after she went viral for telling Mindy Kaling during Netflix’s With Love, Meghan that she goes by “Sussex now.” At the time, Meghan laughed at Kaling calling her “Meghan Markle,” and corrected her: “You know I’m Sussex now.”
But on her new podcast, she ditched it entirely.
Even the end credits avoided her full name, referring to her only as “Meghan.” Promotional material follows suit, branding the series as Confessions of a Female Founder with Meghan.
The move adds another twist to Meghan’s evolving public identity. In an interview with People last month, she reflected on why the Sussex title still means so much. “It’s our shared name as a family... I hadn’t recognised how meaningful that would be to me until we had children,” she said.
She called “Sussex” a “part of our love story,” adding, “Archie, Lili, H and I all have [it] together. It means a lot to me.”
